China vows to enhance woodball development

The Chinese Embassy has pledged to donate modern manufacturing equipment to increase production of the woodball for national and international market.

The Chinese Ambassador to Uganda Zhang Zhuqiang vowed to reduce Uganda’s burden of low production during the tour of the manufacturing plant housed at Ndejje University’s Luwero Main Campus. He also paid a courtesy visit to the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) headquarters at Nakulabye, Kampala.

Present were Ndejje University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eriabu Lugujjo and National Council of Sports representative, David Katende.

Impressed by the development of woodball in the country and in Africa spearheaded by Uganda, the ambassador promised to invest resources in purchase of modern machines that will assist UWbF attain its goal.

The ambassador’s remarks were in response to appeal made by the UWbF President Paul Mark Kayongo for technical assistance and support towards the federation’s annual activities.

“Uganda is mandated to produce and distribute woodball equipment in Africa but has a production capacity of 10 sets of equipment per day. This is insufficient for the available demand in Uganda and beyond,”

“Overhauling the existing machinery with more efficient and effective ones from China will enable us produce the targeted 50 sets of equipment per day,” the woodball supreme said.

The visit by the Chinese Ambassador coincided with the 10th anniversary of development of woodball that was introduced in Uganda in 2008.

Over 4000 people play woodball in Uganda alone. The sport has also spread to seven countries, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and Democratic Republic of Congo all spearheaded by UWbF and and Africa Woodball Federation headquartered in Nakulabye, Kampala.
