1st Outing of National Team Trials

The Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) successfully held the 1st Outing of the National Team Trials on 9th May 2026 at the Kyambogo University Peace Park Grounds, marking the beginning of the country’s journey toward the 10th Malaysia Woodball World Cup.

The highly competitive outing brought together some of Uganda’s finest woodball athletes drawn from universities, clubs, Uganda Prisons, and other top-performing institutions across the country. The trials are part of a carefully structured national team selection process aimed at identifying the strongest squad to represent Uganda on the international stage.

According to the federation’s preparation plan, the final national team will be selected after three consecutive trial outings, with athletes’ performances accumulated across all sessions to determine the best performers in both the men’s and women’s categories.

The opening outing featured athletes who qualified through the recently concluded National Universities and Clubs Woodball Open Championship rankings, alongside experienced national team players who represented Uganda at the 4th Beach Woodball World Cup in Thailand.

Among the standout athletes in the men’s category were players from KIU, Uganda Prisons, Kampala University, Kyambogo University, Makerere University, and Ndejje University, reflecting the growing competitiveness of university and club woodball in Uganda. In the women’s category, athletes from Ndejje University, MOPS, KIU, Kyambogo University, and other institutions showcased impressive skill and determination as they battled for early advantage in the rankings.

The federation noted that each outing consists of 48 gates played across four rounds, testing athletes on consistency, concentration, technical precision, and mental strength.

Speaking during the trials, federation officials emphasized the importance of discipline, commitment, and preparation as Uganda continues building a competitive national team capable of performing strongly at the global level. The trials also form part of the federation’s broader vision of strengthening talent identification and maintaining Uganda’s growing presence in international woodball competitions.

The atmosphere at Kyambogo University reflected the determination of athletes eager to earn national team slots. Coaches, technical officials, and supporters witnessed several exciting performances as players fought to make an early statement ahead of the remaining outings scheduled later in May.

UWbF continues to encourage athletes to remain focused throughout the selection process, noting that consistency across all outings will be key in determining the final squad for Malaysia.

The federation also reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism and international competitiveness through a structured technical team that will oversee team selection, training, and preparation ahead of the World Cup.

With the first outing successfully concluded, attention now shifts to the upcoming trial sessions as Uganda’s top woodball players continue their pursuit of national team places and the opportunity to represent the country on the world stage.
