Mpoma Girls School, Mukono, and the Ministry of Public Services (MoPS), once again reigned with Mpoma taking their third title in a row among the youth teams. On the seniors side, MoPS, won their second back-to-back title.
It was a repeat of champions at the 7th Women’s Day Woodball Championship held on Saturday at Lubiri Nnaabagereka Primary School in Kampala.
Mpoma Girls School, Mukono, and the Ministry of Public Services (MoPS), once again reigned with Mpoma taking their third title in a row among the youth teams. On the seniors side, MoPS, won their second back-to-back title.
Mpoma Girls had Joy Namuli (48 strokes) and Praise Ahurira (50) pick gold and bronze, respectively. Priscilla Kwagala of Iganga SS interrupted the 1-2-3 finish with a silver.
Mpoma’s pair of Angella Nyinamahoro and Ahurira also won bronze in the doubles with 63 strokes.
Namuli (48), Ahurira (50), Olivet Natumanya (52) and Yvonne Mawerere (52), combined for 202 strokes as Iganga SS finished second, 20 strokes behind. Amazima School, Njeru was third with 256 combined strokes.
Mpoma are a dominant team in schools woodball, having won the Juniors Championship four times in a row.
“To win once is special, but three times? It’s overwhelming. I’m incredibly proud of these girls. They’ve poured their hearts into this and this victory deserves to be celebrated. Each year, I see young girls grow not only as woodball players but as individuals. Their passion inspires me and I’m thrilled to witness their continued success,” head coach Prossy Nankya, said.
In an event that attracted 40 participants in the individual category, Kwagala and Peace Ariho (Kaikolongo Seed SS) were standouts with a remarkable gate-in-one on the day.
Ndejje Corporates won the seniors title with 490 strokes, two better than Ndejje University. League champions, Ministry of Public Service, were third with 501 strokes.
Mirembe Sanyu and Alverah Mukamarinda’s transfer to Ndejje Corporates promises a competitive season, as seen at the Women’s Day Championship.
Joyce Nalubega won the seniors title with 104 strokes, followed by Mukamarinda and Florence Mukoya.
