The Uganda Woodball Federation received a significant boost in their preparations for the October World Cup in China, thanks to the generous support of the National Lottery Gaming Board. At the prize award ceremony of the President’s Cup held at the Cricket Oval Lugogo on Sunday, the chairman of the board, Aloysious, assured the Federation of the institution’s continued support.
In his address, Aloysious emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent and committed to backing the national junior woodball team as they gear up for the global competition. His pledge was met with great enthusiasm from the players and the Federation alike, marking a pivotal moment in the development of woodball in Uganda.
The President’s Cup saw intense competition, with Ndejje Corporate emerging as champions in the men’s category, securing victory with an impressive 41 strokes. They were closely followed by the University of Kisubi, who finished with 48 strokes, and the Ministry of Public Service (MOPS), which came third with 49 strokes.
In the women’s category, the Ministry of Public Service (MOPS) triumphed with 370 strokes, demonstrating their dominance and skill. Ndejje took second place with 389 strokes, while Makerere University secured third place with 390 strokes in a closely contested match.
A notable highlight of the event was the maiden appearance of Diamond Trust Bank, which showcased a promising performance by finishing in the top 12. Their debut signals a growing interest and participation in woodball from various institutions, further enriching the competitive landscape of the sport.
