The Uganda Woodball Federation proudly marked a significant milestone on Saturday, June 14th, 2025, with the successful staging of the 15th ICPAU Juniors Woodball Championship at World Ahead Secondary School, Matugga. The event brought together over 500 participants from various schools across the country, reaffirming the Federation’s commitment to youth sports development and the growing popularity of woodball among Uganda’s younger generation.

This year’s edition was not just a competition — it was a celebration of 15 years of strategic investment in youth talent, made possible through the long-standing partnership between the Uganda Woodball Federation (UWbF) and the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU).

15 Years of Steady Growth and National Reach

Since its inception in 2010, the ICPAU Juniors Woodball Championship has grown to become one of the country’s most respected and impactful youth sports tournaments. With each passing year, the event has expanded in participation, quality, and influence, drawing young athletes from both urban and rural schools, and cultivating a competitive spirit rooted in discipline, focus, and fair play.

The Uganda Woodball Federation recognizes that nurturing future champions begins at grassroots level, and this championship continues to serve as a powerful platform for young people to discover and grow in the sport.

Encouraging Performances and Meaningful Impact

This year’s edition was notable for the high level of competition and impressive performances, signaling real progress in youth skill development across participating schools.

“What we observed is the continued growth in talent. The scores achieved by the young participants were very encouraging and speak volumes about the commitment from schools, coaches, and most importantly, the players themselves,” noted one of the Federation’s senior leaders.

“Participation of over 500 young people in one event is a strong statement. It confirms that woodball has a future — and these young players are at the heart of it.”

A Model of Sustainable Sponsorship

ICPAU has sponsored the Junior Woodball Championship for over a decade, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to promoting sports, education, and youth empowerment. Their consistent support — both in cash and in kind — has enabled the Federation to maintain and grow this important annual fixture on the national sports calendar.

The Uganda Woodball Federation is especially grateful for ICPAU’s UGX 26 million contribution toward this year’s event. This kind of support not only enables the successful organization of the championship but also reinforces the role of corporate partners in shaping Uganda’s sports ecosystem.

Looking Ahead: Woodball’s Bright Future

The Federation views this 15-year journey as a foundation for even greater achievements. With the continued rollout of the new national Sports Act and the Federation’s focus on regional representation and school engagement, junior events like this will continue to play a central role in talent identification, development, and competition exposure.

As woodball spreads to more districts, institutions, and age groups, the Uganda Woodball Federation remains committed to providing youth with opportunities to grow not just as athletes, but as leaders, ambassadors, and role models.
